Sterling is a town of nearly 4,000 residents covering 27 square miles in northeastern Connecticut. It includes the villages of Sterling, Oneco, and Ekonk Hill and shares its eastern border with Rhode Island. Founded in 1794, Sterling is the birthplace of Charles Dow, founder of Dow Jones & Company, and is home to the historic Dorrance Inn, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sterling has a strong agricultural heritage that continues today. The town has one school, Sterling Community School, which is also its largest employer. Other local employers include Sterling Foster Pharmaceutical and Re-Energy Sterling.

Each year, the community comes together for Sterling Family Day, organized by the Town of Sterling’s Family Day Committee. Held rain or shine on the second Saturday of September, this annual event offers free activities for families, opportunities to support local vendors, and a chance for residents to connect with one another. The day concludes with a fireworks show funded by community donations, making it a wonderful celebration of everything Sterling has to offer.
