Before Birth & Postpartum

Expectant and new parents can access a range of programs and resources to promote a healthy pregnancy and a positive start for their newborn. These supports help families build confidence, plan for the arrival of their child, and navigate the postpartum period with guidance and reassurance as they adjust to life with a new baby.

Birth–2 Years Old

From birth through age two, children grow and change rapidly. Families can find guidance, services, and early learning supports that foster healthy development during these formative years.

3–5 Years Old

The preschool years help children build on early learning and prepare for kindergarten. Families can explore educational programs and community resources that support social, emotional, and cognitive growth.

6–10 Years Old

As children enter elementary school, they continue to develop essential skills for learning and life. Resources and programs for ages six to ten focus on building independence, confidence, and continued success at home, in school, and in the community.

About Us

The Northeast Early Childhood Council (NECC) is made up of the communities of Brooklyn, Canterbury, Killingly, Plainfield, Putnam, Sterling, & Thompson.

The Northeast Early Childhood Council (NECC) serves as the Local Governance Partner (LGP) for Early Start CT programs in our seven towns, working in partnership with the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) to connect families to resources and strengthen early childhood services as the region’s early childhood hub.

We work together to ensure all children, prenatal through age ten, in our communities are healthy, safe, and successful learners. We bring together all key stakeholders who play a crucial role in the safety, mental & physical development, and education of our children.

All community members are welcome to join our community table conversations, such as childcare providers, parents, caregivers, agencies, organization, businesses, educators, schools & local government, who have an interest in early childhood and working together on the mission of the NECC.
