What is The Pyramid Model?

The Pyramid Model is a way of helping young children learn how to understand and manage their emotions, build relationships, communicate their needs, and get along with others. It gives the adults in a child’s life practical ways to support these skills and help children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

The Pyramid Model is used in early childhood programs and schools across Connecticut, including many programs in our local communities. NECC helps connect local providers and families with Pyramid Model resources, training, and tools they can use both in the classroom and at home.

For Providers

How the Pyramid Model Helps Providers and Staff

The Pyramid Model is an evidence-based framework that gives child care providers practical strategies and tools to strengthen young children’s social-emotional development. It focuses on building positive relationships, creating supportive environments, teaching social-emotional skills, and responding effectively to challenging behaviors.

The Northeast Early Childhood Council (NECC) connects child care centers and family child care homes in Brooklyn, Canterbury, Killingly, Plainfield, Putnam, Sterling, and Thompson with Pyramid Model resources, training opportunities, and classroom supports.

For Families

Using the Pyramid Model at Home

The Pyramid Model is an evidence-based framework that promotes the social-emotional development of infants and young children by building nurturing relationships, supportive environments, and practical strategies for all adults in a child’s life, including parents and caregivers.

The Northeast Early Childhood Council (NECC) wants to help families build their knowledge and use of Pyramid Model social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies at home. We provide and facilitate free trainings and classes for parents and caregivers, along with practical tools and resources to support children’s emotions, relationships, and positive behaviors.
