Brooklyn is a historic and welcoming community, first settled in the 17th century and incorporated in 1786. The town proudly hosts the Brooklyn Fair—America’s oldest continuously running agricultural fair—held annually the weekend before Labor Day. With a population of approximately 8,500 residents, Brooklyn is nestled within the scenic Last Green Valley and along the picturesque Route 169 National Scenic Byway, offering the charm of rural New England alongside convenient access to Route 395 and Route 6.
Brooklyn is home to a vibrant and engaged community. Residents benefit from active local organizations, including a strong Little League Baseball program, a supportive local business community, and a Recreation Department that offers programs and activities for all ages. The Brooklyn Cares Community Center serves as an important resource, providing a food pantry, clothing closet, and additional support for families. The town’s beautiful agricultural landscape is complemented by a thriving business district with convenient shopping and dining options.

Education is at the center of our Brooklyn community. Brooklyn Elementary School serves students in Pre-K through Grade 4, including preschool classrooms accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). These high-quality preschool programs are offered free of charge and include transportation for families. Brooklyn Middle School provides a well-rounded experience with numerous extracurricular opportunities, including athletics, clubs, drama, and music. After middle school, Brooklyn students have access to several high school options, including Woodstock Academy, Killingly High School, ACT Arts Magnet School, and Putnam High School, among others.
Brooklyn offers the best of small-town living—rich history, natural beauty, strong schools, and a caring, connected community dedicated to supporting its residents and families.
